There's a house on our land! Okay, it's not quite habitable yet, but you would think it's our move-in day, we're so excited!
Check out the progress so far in this quick photo update!

It's pretty fascinating for us to see the 3-D manifestation develop of something I drew on a piece of sheet paper last year. Sometimes it can be hard to picture what our home will look like; it's not as if we got to tour a similar model before starting the process. I remember searching Pinterest for floor plan inspiration and sketching my own versions on scratch paper to run by David. We finally came up with something we liked and decided to move forward, jokingly saying, "Hope we like it!" So now to be able to see the walls going up and feel the actual space is kind of surreal. And yep, we like it!

That's a lot of block! The construction manager sent us this photo.
We were told the block was supposed to be dropped off on a Tuesday but it wasn't... Uh-oh, we hoped we weren't experiencing the supply chain delays we've all heard so much about. But not to worry, as of that very Thursday the drop was complete, I repeat, the drop is complete! Our construction manager Joe sent the photo above. He's on the ball and keeping things moving right along!
The next day we drove over to the site to check it out and what a surprise! The photo below is what saw when we pulled up:

Wow, these guys worked fast!
Not only was the block there but there was a crew of men already stacking it. We were so excited! The photo above was taken on Friday the day after the block was dropped off and by Saturday they were done. Two days and this crew knocked out the entire house!

And just like that, the block was finished! The two short columns (to the right) in front of the main door will be completed with black stained wood posts. The house faces south which is good feng shui; more on that another time!
16" portico lantern for the portico. The best price I've found is on Amazon!

David taking it all in.
Above is the kitchen nook window. Building code didn't allow one piece of glass this large so the picture window will actually be three windows mulled together. We're planning to have a casual table here for family meals. This big window views the backyard; I can't wait to look outside as I'm doing dishes in the kitchen and see our little girl playing outside.
I like this one but I want it to be bigger...
Side note, if anyone finds a 60" round black pedestal table, please let me know. It's weirdly hard to find! That's what I intend to place in the kitchen nook in front of the picture window.

Honey, I'm home!
Also, the electrical meter box was installed. I didn't get a good photo because the electrician was in the process of installing it as we were working on cleaning up falling trees, and I didn't want to crowd him. I'm sure I wouldn't love it if people were taking close-up photos of me while I work, haha. Then it started raining and we all left in a hurry!

Thanks for the present, honey!
Currently we're in the midst of what's turned into a several month-long side project of cutting up fallen trees and burning them or stacking the wood for firewood. Who knew it would take this long just to clear the driveway area alone; we're prepping to plant flowering trees lining the drive. Granted, we started out doing everything manually but now have accumulated better tools for the job, which of course helps enormously, including my new cart above!
I just love my new Gorilla cart! We got mine from the hardware store but it's the same brand.

The fruits of our labor. Despite the caterpillars. And spiders. And tarp issues. And David's smashed finger.
David bought the cart at my request to make it easier for me to haul chopped wood back to the woodpile that I created. Okay hear me out: I want to build a "Wood Bar" complete with a pavilion, metal racks for firewood, and cute signs reading "whole," "split," and "kindling." Of course, there will also be a chopping block for our future wood-chopping delight.
There are so many fallen trees we haven't even touched yet and the pile above is actually one of many that we are working to consolidate. However, eventually we'll have it all cleaned up, and I can see the plan in my mind's eye as if it's already done. Now, there's just the small matter of doing it...
With Love,
Molly
