April 2022 Update: Raise the Roof!

Woo-hoo! It's really feeling like a house now! Despite some delivery delays, progress is still chugging along and we're inching closer to being able to live on our little piece of land.
Check out a quick pictorial tour of this month's progress, and of course, a couple of challenges which were bound to arise...

Let's just move in now. :)
We've received multiple updates delaying the windows a couple times so far. However, shout-out to our fantastic construction manager Joe who has kept everything moving along despite that! This month they installed the roof and completed the first floor framing. Work has not stopped while waiting on the window delivery. Hopefully the windows will be installed next month and won't cause much change to our move-in date after all!

Framing lines i.e. probably the most boring photo I've every shared but we love it so much!
Who knew we would be so excited to see lines on concrete? But yes, we were pretty excited when we walked in and saw markings on the foundation because we knew that meant framing is around the corner! And sure enough...

My goofy sense of humor on display.
There it is! Framing only took a few days. These guys work so fast! Above, I amazed my family by walking through the walls. My husband said I'm goofy. I think he pronounced "hilariously clever" wrong.
P.S. Wearing those sandals turned out to be a huge mistake.
Hello, sugar sand! Yep, I should have worn my trusty work boots instead.

The breakfast nook.
This soon-to-be window is one of my favorite design elements. I requested the largest possible window per code. Actually, it's going to be three pieces of glass mulled together due to Florida building codes related to hurricanes which I think we can all agree sounds like a very good reason.

Our daughter's open-concept playroom/bedroom.
This is another one of my favorite design areas. Our daughter's playroom is located just off our living room so I can keep my eye on her. In fact, I pretty much designed this whole house to have the constant ability to watch over her. It's going to be very convenient while she's little. Will she appreciate it so much when she is older? Hmmn...
Notice that "opening" in the framing above? The playroom connects directly to a small bedroom area, no door, just this architectural detail to separate the spaces visually. One thing we were not able to fit into the footprint was a walk-in closet for her, but you know what, I never had a walk-in closet until I was 28 years old and can you believe it, I survived to tell! :)

From left: piano/foyer/dining areas.
Finally, the front door entrance area. Again we employed the "openings" idea in the design to allocate different spaces without closing them off completely with walls or doors. One thing I'm looking forward to is the cross-breeze; we're hoping to drastically reduce our energy consumption and need for AC by taking advantage of the windows and fresh forest air!
The foyer is a bit too wide for the runner rug I originally planned so we'll go with a regular area rug instead. I've seen this one in person and the colors are even prettier than pictured! More sizes and colors available.

Home sweet home.
And that's our little update as of the end of April! Next month should see HVAC, fireplaces, doors, and hopefully windows. We also have our electrical walk scheduled to confirm locations of lighting fixtures etc. Can't wait to be all done and invite friends and family over for a glass of iced tea from my very own camellia sinensis bush... that is, the one that survived the horrible blight of 2021. But that's another story.
With Love,
Molly
